Access to Legal Advocacy
Mental Health Advocates have some training in mental health law and legal rights, but this is basic, and they know when more expert advice or representation is required.
The Network has a list of local solicitors who are willing to give legal advice to our clients.
This legal advice session is held fortnightly on a Thursday in the local acute psychiatric unit, The Little Brook Hospital by rota. The Solicitor will give initial advice on a particular issue, and advise whether or not legal aid will be available.
This service is by appointment only and can be booked by contacting the office on
01322 285234.
Currently there are 6 local solicitors who provide this facility free of charge. There are representatives from Hatten Wyatt, Howarth Scott and Michael Wightman.
Alternatively, people can contact the Network for an appointment with a Mental Health Advocate who can assist in exploring options.
